it is ultra awesome. I had a stage 2 AFE kit on my e36 M3. Best sound but the CSL is legendary

I'm considering an aFe intake just because the airbox is not financially viable anytime soon, did you get the dry filter or the oiled one? and what were the pros and cons of the intake?

The reason I ask is every intake post on forums turns into a huge name calling contest so I'm looking for a no-bullshit review.

Even the replicas are expensive. If you go AFE I would suggest using the dry filter. Too many problems with oiled filters, and MAF sensors.

oiled with the 3.5 MAF off of a 540i. Pros include increased economy, noticable power gain, and sound. Cons, price and addiction to the power/sound will get your now economical car to be not economical lol :]

Yeah the prices are pretty outlandish, I was probably going to go with the dry filter regardless just because the MAF sensors don't seem to like oil much.

Can BMW convert my E46 M3 to a CSL?

Pretty please BMW!

Let me keep my manual gearbox though.

I already have SMG so that wouldn't be a problem X-D

I tried to find ze manual when looking for used M3s for sale but there were no clean ones

All I heard were horror stories, from just about everyone, about SMG transmissions so I decided to just wait until a nice manual one popped up.

What's your ownership experience with the SMG been like so far?

Good call. It is less headache to have Manuel for sure. Way less to go wrong.

I've had the car for a little over a year. No issues so far. It's actually kind of engaging because you have to drive it like a manual. Auto mode is terrible and if you shift without modulating throttle it isn't smooth.

The only reason it's not a huge deal for me if I have an issue is because my dad is a pretty good hobby mechanic with a lift. He has experience diagnosing issues with these types of transmissions (long story). There are issues that the dealer would charge a lot of money to fix that you can fix yourself if you have patience. But of course if an expensive part actually breaks then you have to pay for it.

I'm so jealous you have a lift! My dad or my uncle and I can do all the maintenance ourselves which is nice, however more serious stuff or things that require a lift I take to a mechanic.

It is so helpful! My dad spent decades doing work without a lift. He took the engine out of his 911 multiple times without one. Once he got seriously into his hobby he spent the money on a lift and never looked back. Working on cars goes from being half fun and half annoying to all fun when you have a lift.

I absolutely love that harmonious roar you get from a high-powered induction system. I'm hoping my Spitfire with its 6 throttle bodies should have something similar :)

Also, this video has it in abundance, and I want an MGB GT V8. Hard.
